Northern Ireland is home to some of the most spectacular wedding venues in the UK. We are incredibly lucky to have everything from 200-year-old rustic stone barns to sprawling, luxurious country estates.

However, styling these very different spaces requires a completely different approach. You cannot just drop a standard floral package into a historic building and expect it to look right. You have to design for the room.

1. The Rustic Stone Barns

Venues like The Wool Tower, Larchfield Estate, and Orange Tree House are bursting with character. They feature exposed stone walls, heavy wooden beams, and a very atmospheric, cozy feel.

The Challenge: These venues can naturally be quite dark, and heavily structured, traditional floral arrangements often look too formal against the rough stone.

The Solution: You need to lean into the organic, wild feel of the space. Loose, textured foliage works beautifully here. Because the rooms are darker, you should rely heavily on warm candlelight and lighter floral tones to brighten the space.

Instead of traditional pedestals, use "growing" aisle meadows that sit directly on the floor. They look as though they have naturally sprung up from the stone, complementing the rustic aesthetic perfectly.

2. The Grand Country Estates

If you have booked a venue like Galgorm, Culloden, or Slieve Donard, you are dealing with grand ballrooms, towering ceilings, and luxurious decor.

The Challenge: The biggest issue in these spaces is scale. A standard low bowl of flowers will completely disappear in a room with a 20-foot ceiling.

The Solution: You must build upwards. To make an impact in a grand estate, you need tall, elevated table centrepieces. Placing your flowers on tall gold or clear stands bridges the visual gap between the tables and the ceiling, filling the empty air space and giving the room that necessary luxury impact. Large statement urns at the entrance of the room will also help set a grand tone right from the start.

The "No-Damage" Rule

Whether you are in a historic barn or a luxury hotel, almost all top-tier venues share one very strict rule: you cannot attach anything to their walls or ceilings. There is no nailing, taping, or hanging allowed on their historic stonework or expensive wallpaper.
